Understanding Trauma
Üsküdar University's Congress of Trauma Psychology was held with the theme “Understanding Trauma” on March 07-08, 2020.
At the Congress of Trauma Psychology, held for the first time in Turkey, the concept of trauma was examined from many angles with our distinguished professors, experts in their fields.
The existence of a serious threat to a person's own or their loved ones' physical integrity or life is known to be a traumatic life experience that negatively affects an individual's psychological resilience. Traumatic events are considered not only an individual but also a social phenomenon, and in this context, feelings of alienation, abandonment, and loneliness towards other segments of society lead to a loss of motivation and burnout. Moving from this point, topics such as trauma and the brain, the neuropsychology of post-traumatic stress disorder, case examples with traumatic effects in society, post-traumatic growth, and secondary injuries in trauma were discussed at our congress.
At the congress, a meeting environment was provided for everyone interested in the field or wanting to work in this field, and who were present to understand trauma and its effects, with the aim of multiplying this knowledge and developing new research.
We are bringing the presentations made at the congress to you in this book.
