Hydrogen Safety

Although hydrogen has long been recognized as an element in the scientific world, in recent years it has increasingly been associated with hope, excitement, and, at the same time, certain uncertainties. As one of the clean and sustainable energy sources of the future, hydrogen stands out not only for its high potential but also as a critical element that requires multidimensional evaluation in terms of safety.

This book has been prepared precisely at this point, with the aim of contributing to the field by bringing together technical, practical, and scientific knowledge regarding the safe use of hydrogen. Compiled under the title “Hydrogen Safety,” this work is intended to serve as a guiding resource for the safe management of this promising energy source, which is a strong candidate for shaping future energy systems, in terms of human health, the environment, and industry.

The foundations of this book were laid within the scope of the ISG604 – Fire Prevention Systems and Technologies course, conducted in the Spring Semester of 2023–2024 as part of the Occupational Health and Safety PhD Program at the Institute of Health Sciences, Üsküdar University, through a book chapter assignment given to our students. These studies, carefully prepared by our students with scientific rigor, have gone beyond merely fulfilling course requirements and have produced original content capable of contributing to the literature. With the addition of the expertise and academic experience of our faculty members, a comprehensive and collaborative work has emerged, bringing together perspectives from different disciplines.
