Selahattin Gültekin


Prof. Dr. Selahattin Gültekin; completed his primary, middle, and high school education in Erzurum. After graduating from Erzurum High School with first place as a boarding student in 1968, he enrolled in the Chemical Engineering Department of Istanbul University's Faculty of Chemistry in the same year. As a scholarship student of the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK), he graduated with first place in Chemical Engineering in 1973 and then worked as a manager for about a year in the Pharmaceutical Industry. In 1974, he returned to his alma mater as an assistant in the Department of Basic Operations and Methods of the Faculty. After a short period of reserve officer duty, he won the TÜBİTAK NATO Doctoral Scholarship in 1975 and went to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in America. Completing both his master's and doctorate degrees at MIT, he returned to the Faculty of Chemistry at Istanbul University in 1980. Between 1981-1994, he served as a faculty member in the Chemical Engineering Department at the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. Between 1992-1993, he worked as a visiting professor in the Chemical Engineering Department at MIT. In 1994, he returned to Turkey and was appointed as a professor in the Chemical Engineering Department at Yıldız Technical University (YTÜ). In October 2000, he left YTÜ and started working at Doğuş University.

In 2009, he served as the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Rector's Advisor, and Head of the Industrial Engineering Department at Maltepe University. In 2011, he received an offer from the University of Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) in Malaysia and went abroad for a year. Between 2012-2016, he served as the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences and Head of the Bioengineering Department at Üsküdar University. In September 2016, he took a sabbatical leave from Üsküdar University and went to Kyrgyzstan-Turkey Manas University, where he served as the Head of the Chemical Engineering Department and Rector's Advisor. He returned to Üsküdar University again in 2020. He is currently the Rector's Advisor and Head of the Chemical Engineering Department.

Prof. Gültekin's research areas:  Chemical Reaction Engineering, Catalysis Chemical and Bioreactor Design, Industrial Chemical and Bio-processes, Simulation, Mathematical Modeling of Chemical and Biological Systems, Optimization, Process Control, and Renewable Energies

To date, he has over 100 internationally published articles and presentations, and these publications have been cited more than 750 times in the literature. One of his articles ranked 68th among the top 100 most cited articles published in I&EC Proc.Des.Dev.
