The Healing Power of Social Relationships
As the saying “strength comes from unity” expresses, challenges are overcome by sharing them.
To meet, to understand, to share… From meaningful sharing comes understanding, trust, and peace.
When strong positive emotions are suppressed, ignored, or confined within, the immune system weakens.
However, when we trust ourselves and express our feelings with a positive mindset, our likelihood of illness decreases.
For this reason, we need strong social relationships to express our emotions outwardly and maintain our well-being.
High-quality social connections positively affect health, strengthen the immune system, and reduce stress.
In other words, good social relationships act like a vitamin, while poor social relationships function like a poison.
Research shows that having a happy friend living nearby can increase a person’s own happiness level by a significant margin.
Negative social relationships, however, contribute to the deterioration of health.
In this work, the author presents ways to build healthy social relationships within the framework of the World Health Organization’s definition of health—“a state of complete well-being in social aspects.”
The author also highlights practical applications of social connection that hold a significant place in our cultural tradition.
