I. International Sufism Studies Graduate Student Symposium Proceedings
The I. International Sufism Studies Graduate Student Symposium was organized by graduate students of the Institute of Sufism Studies, with the support of Üsküdar University Institute of Sufism Studies and Kerim Foundation, aiming to enhance interdisciplinary interaction in academic studies within the field of Sufism and to contribute to the development of new avenues of thought. The symposium brought together graduate students and experts not only from Turkey but also from countries including China, Japan, Lebanon, Germany, Iran, America, and Malaysia. Out of a total of 61 student papers presented at the symposium, 37 were selected by the jury and compiled into this book. The work is expected to offer a snapshot of current international research topics, content, and methodologies, providing insights into future directions for researchers.
The invited speakers section of the book includes an address by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Juliane Hammer from the Department of Islamic Studies at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, titled “Recognizable and Undefined: Thoughts on Religious Academic Studies,” which addresses problems related to studies in the field of Islamic Studies and questions concerning religious studies methodology. At the end of the section, Prof. Dr. Mahmud Erol Kılıç's talk, “The Importance of Sufi Thought and Studies in the Ottoman Period,” explains the main research themes of the Institute and draws attention to Ottoman-era Sufi texts from the perspective of international researchers.
