Family and Loneliness: IV. International Loneliness Symposium Proceedings
The family institution has historically been coded as a safe space for individuals, serving a function of emotional and social support. In today's conditions, we observe changes in the influence and functions of the family. For example, research on family relationships, altered by the pervasive presence of digital technologies in daily life, indicates a decrease in time spent together by family members, transitioning into time spent alone. Such examples point to new situations that can be described as "loneliness together" and "loneliness within the family." The relationship between family and loneliness emerges as a significant topic that needs to be examined from the perspectives of digitalization, migration, gender, old age, and similar factors.
