13th International Communication Days Artificial Intelligence in Communication: Theory and Practice Symposium Book of Abstracts

For thirteen years, the Faculty of Communication at Üsküdar University has organized the International Communication Days annually, each year focusing on a different theme. This year, we held the 13th International Communication Days as a hybrid event in collaboration with the Faculty of Communication at Near East University. The symposium, held on 13–15 May 2026 under the title “Artificial Intelligence in Communication: Theory and Practice,” featured in-person sessions hosted by Near East University in Nicosia, the capital of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, alongside a number of sessions held online. This format provided academics and researchers from Türkiye, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, and various countries around the world with an opportunity to come together on the same scientific platform.

We are living in a period in which technological developments are rapidly transforming not only the tools we use, but also the ways in which we think, produce, learn, and communicate. Artificial intelligence technologies have emerged as one of the most significant elements of this transformation. The impact of artificial intelligence can be observed across virtually every field of communication, from journalism and advertising to cinema and digital content production, and from public relations to social media. While these technologies offer significant opportunities across all aspects of human and social life, they also give rise to numerous debates concerning ethics, privacy, copyright, disinformation, algorithmic bias, professional transformation, and the future of human creativity.

For this reason, we believe that the responsibility of universities and scholars is not merely to observe technological transformation, but also to question it, analyze its social consequences, and contribute to the development of human-centered approaches. From this perspective, we consider it particularly meaningful that the 13th International Communication Days was held at such a critical juncture under the theme “Artificial Intelligence in Communication: Theory and Practice.”

Throughout the three-day event, both in-person and online sessions addressed the impact of artificial intelligence across a wide range of fields, particularly communication, media, journalism, cinema, digital culture, ethics, and disinformation, through theoretical and applied studies. The participation of academics and researchers representing 85 different universities from 11 countries, and the presentation of 237 papers across 43 sessions, clearly demonstrates the scale of the international scholarly interaction achieved through the event.
