Macroscopic Examination, Description, and Sampling in Pathology (Macroscopic Dissection)

Pathological anatomy methods describe diseases in all their aspects. In tissues and organs affected by diseases or cancer, definitive diagnosis is achieved through the combined evaluation of macroscopic changes, meaning visible external alterations, and microscopic changes. Microscopic findings lead to the final diagnosis, while macroscopic findings serve as the key to interpreting microscopic results. A thorough macroscopic observation, accurate description, proper definition, and sound knowledge illuminate the path to microscopic diagnosis. In some cases, macroscopic description alone may be sufficient without the need for microscopy. Similarly, in intraoperative assessments, macroscopic findings may be adequate to define the case.
